Technically, the Fairphone 5 has improved over its predecessor, with a 6.46-inch OLED display, a high resolution of 2,700 x 1,224 pixels and support for 90 Hz frame rate. The camera setup includes a 50-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel dual rear camera, resulting in decent image quality.

A notable feature of the Fairphone 5 is the use of the Qualcomm QCM6490 SoC, normally intended for IoT devices, but used here for a smartphone. It offers 5G support and Wi-Fi 6E. The smartphone's performance is adequate and the Android system is free of bloatware.

Mulesing is a controversial process that is unfortunately still practiced in Australia, but only with Merino sheep. The Australian wool from our German felt producer is 100% Merino wool free. This creates a mixture of New Zealand Merino wool and Australian non-Merino wool, which also has an impact on the particularly good and consistent quality of our felt. It is even, stable and pleasant to the touch. For our cell phone case with wallet function we use vegan cork material instead of leather.

The production of organic cotton is certified according to GOTS is subject to the socially and environmentally friendly GOT standards. The printing takes place within the EU in Poland at a modern textile printing company. The organic cotton yarn is produced in the tranquil Netherlands.

Cork has a uniquely pleasant feel. The harvest is good for our environment and the people who grow cork oaks. Cork oak forests are particularly sustainable biotopes with diverse flora and fauna. The tree forms new bark every 9-11 years. A cork oak that is harvested binds 3 times as much CO₂ as one that is not harvested. Harvesting is a Portuguese tradition that can only be done by hand. It guarantees forest owners a secure and well-paid existence.
